Ausstellung in Japan: KUMANONISUMU 2022!
Ich hatte das unfassbare Glück , an einer artist residency in Kumano teilnehmen zu dürfen:
einen Monat Zeit, in Japan einzutauchen und eine interaktive Ausstellung zu machen...

KIKO - 紀行
Did you know that there is a Japanese word for diary literature? - NIKKO
Did you know that there even is a Japanese word for travel diary literature? - KIKO
I didn't!
I started reading and researching and I am very fascinated by traditional Japanese literature.
There is a lot to discover, for example:
wakas (5 lines of poetry, 31 syllables) and haikus (3 lines of poetry, 17 syllables).
They often refer to the 5 senses: sight, sound, smell, taste and feeling.
Reading those poems gave me a strong impulse on how Japanese culture feels and I also started thinking in these poems when I am in nature or elsewhere. Expressing a feeling or an experience in a brief sensual way is what I would like to share with the audience visiting our exhibition!
For one month I was hiking on the kodo, the pilgrims path, experienced Nature and Japanese culture.
I drew and painted, took pictures, wrote small haiku inspired poems, recorded sounds and even smells.
I collected memories for my travel diary, my Kiko.
I have heard that the concept of the "Advent calendar" is unknown in Japan. It is a calendar, usually made out of paper or fabric, that contains 24 little pictures or gifts that children get on the 1st of December.
They get to open one little window every day.
I applied that concept for my exhibition and share my travel experiences in a kiko advent calendar - along with other stories i got hooked on...
Visitors of my exhibition were able to open a window and experience some of my experiences from Japan!
